Kevin Barry, creator of Nova Launcher, has confirmed that he and his team will continue to develop the launcher, which will not change much.
Just one day after telling you all the news that version 8 of Nova Launcher bringsone of the best launchers that you can install on your Android mobilewe have just learned that the popular launcher changes hands, passing into the hands of Branch, a company dedicated to ads and analysis of web links between applications.
This acquisition brings a series of changes that will arrive soon to Nova Launcheramong which is not, for the moment, the arrival of advertising in the free version of the app.
These are the first changes that will come to Nova Launcher after becoming the property of Branch
Kevin Barry, creator of Nova Launcher, has confirmed, via a post on the official blog of your appthe sale of the launcher to the analytics and metrics company, Branch and has detailed both the reasons for said decision and the changes that will come to the launcher after this change of ownership.
Barry has explained that the main reason for selling his product to the multinational Branch is how difficult it was for him to monetize it only with the payment of the Prime version and thanks to this sale, the new owner of Nova Launcher will contribute the necessary money for the development of new functionalities.
The creator of Nova Launcher has also confirmed that he and his team will continue to develop the launcher, which will not change much, although it will a few small changes will come to the launcherwhich we will detail below:
- Search enriched with Branch results: Nova Launcher will start to offer a series of automated recommendations in your search box based on Branch algorithms, which could be directly ads.
- Deeper analysis of the use of Nova Launcher: Branch will collect app usage data to monetize them for your benefit
- More A/B tests: from now on Nova Launcher perform more A/B testswhich are those that show a design A to some users and a design B to others to decide which one is finally implemented.
In principle, the change of ownership of Nova Launcher shouldn’t cause profound changes to the design or functionality of the launcherespecially if we take into account that the development team will be the same, but we will have to wait to see the direction that the popular launcher takes from this moment on.
