OPPO has jumped on the sustainability bandwagon, yesterday announcing the intention to remove chargers from the boxes of some of its devices from 2023 onwards.
If a few days ago we talked about Xiaomi could withdraw the charger from the Redmi Note series (and after have done it in the past with the Mi 11), and we already knew that other manufacturers such as Samsung they weren’t going to include it anymorenow it seems that other brands are joining this trend.
As collected in XDA Developersnow it would be OPPO that studies the idea of not including chargers in some of its products. Apparently, the measure will affect the devices that the Chinese firm launches from next year.
OPPO also becomes eco friendly
The news was shared yesterday during the Reno8 line launch event and Reno8 Pro in Europe (terminals that, by the way, can now be purchased in Spain). Billy Zhang, vice president of overseas sales and services at OPPO, told the media that they would remove the charger from their products from 2023 and that they have “a plan”.
It is a bit contradictory to receive this news because OPPO has been since 2014 working on proprietary ultra-fast charging technology. This technology responds to the names VOOC and SuperVOOC. Zhang also had words on this issue, saying that they had to keep them in the boxes because users had a hard time getting them.
From what it seems and it is deduced from the words of Billy Zhang, the plan seems to be geared towards sustainability. During the event, the OPPO manager said that they are “looking to remove the chargers from the boxes and that users can buy it in stores, and continue to use it even when improving their devices.”
The brand has not offered any explanation regarding why you have decided to change your strategy. However, given that it has been placed in the same boat as Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung, the reasons seem to lead us once again to environmental reasons.
